Combing Two parts on one line

Is it possible to have two different instruments represented in the same score line?

I am writing a work for concert band, and I have two percussion parts that are for different instruments, but can be played by the same individual. I'd like them to appear on the same score line, and thus be able to be placed on the same part.

Specifically

1. At the beginning of the work there is a Bell (glockenspiel) part. This is only about 8 measures, and then there is nothing else written for this instrument.

2. At the end of the work there is a 4 measure Chime (tubular bells) part.

It is intended that one person can play both parts. I really don't want to have two score lines here; it is common practice for these to be put together on a single line, with appropriate notation about which instrument is which.

I have been looking through the tutorial and handbook, but can't find anything that appears relevant. Can this be done with Muse Score 1.3?

Thanks in advance,

Jerry

Or just put them on the same line, add your text, and not worry about the fact that the computer-generated playback won't change sounds. In 2.0, it will be possible to make one staff change sound mid-score.

For MuseScore 1.3:
If you wish playback of Glockenspiel along with Tubular Bells (notated on the same staff), see 'Mid-staff change' here:
http://musescore.org/en/handbook/change-and-adjust-sounds#Mid-staff-cha…

Here's the trick:
Instruments like trumpet and violin allow for nuanced performance - trumpet can be muted, violin can be plucked (pizzicato). If you create a score using one of those instuments, open the Mixer at menu item: Display / Mixer (the keyboard shortcut is F10). There you will see the sounds that are available.

The quick example I attach here actually started off as trumpet, which I muted at the final measure. (If you click on menu item: Display / Show Invisible, you can see the hidden 'mute' text.)
Then I changed the sounds for playback using the mixer so that Glockenspiel is played instead of trumpet; followed by Tubular Bells, in place of muted trumpet.
Have a look at this attachment and refer again to the above link.

Jm6stringer - Thanks!!!!

That was exactly what I was looking for. I especially appreciate the time it took to generate the example. And you seemed to have read my mind about the muted trumpet parts - I am also working on a muted trumpet part as well. One question there, though, if I may.

My intent is to have the muted part played only on a repeat of the line - via a 1st and 2nd ending (volta). East enough to mark in the score, but is there a way to only have the muted part play back on the second time. It is a Solo cornet part; I am thinking about using a 2 part scoring on this line.

Perhaps this is too much to ask...

Thanks again - you have been a tremendous help.

To ensure playback of the regular + muted parts you will have to notate without the voltas - just insert empty measures into the score and copy/paste the muted part.

Then, for the sake of brevity (and minimal page turning) the voltas can be entered for the printed score - used by human musicians who will understand your written directions to mute on the second volta.

Regards.
