Sound on note entry from keyboard

• Feb 11, 2015 - 15:31

In v1.2 when I entered a note I heard the note play. I can't figure out how to do it in 2.0.0 a925ae0

MacBook Air 2011. OS X Yosemite 10.10.2

Are you entering notes from a MIDI keyboard, by clicking in the score, or by typing? You shoud get sound by default if everything is configured correctly. Are the notes showing up on the score? Do they play back when you hit Space or the Play button on the toolbar? If there is literally no sound even though there are notes, check your volume (of course), but also View / Synthesizer and and be sure there is a soundfont selected. If so, report the settings in Edit / Preferences / I/O.

Most likely, I'm guessing you have leftover settings froms an older incompatible experimental build of 2.0 that are interfereing. So also try running MuseScore with the -F option to reset to factory settings, and/or see Revert to factory settings

Typing from the keyboard.
Notes show on score.
Does not playback.
Volume is fine.
View/Synthesizer - Fluid appears to be installed - I think that's the answer to that question.
Edit/ Preferences / I/O ??? There's no "Preferences" in Edit.

Resetting to Factory did the trick - although my path was somewhat different than the one shown in the instructions:

Thank you for your help.

Was it like this in 1.3 as well? Seems like this will be an issue for documentation. We already document the special Mac version of the standard keyboard shortcuts (eg, Delete is Fn+Delete on Mac, Ctrl+C is Cmd+C on Mac, etc) - do we also need to document special Mac versions of all menus too? Or is this something Mac users are accustomed to translating in their heads when reading documentation for cross-platform programs?
