How to do tablature?
I would like to easily transcribe some tablature to normal notes, so my plan is to copy some tabs that I made onto Musescore for convenience, and then change the clef to Treble so it will be displayed as notes, and will be easily played by other instruments. However, when I looked in the handbook to find out how to actually enter fret numbers, I found that it was outdated. Can somebody help me?

Outdated in what way? Which specific instruction were you following in the Handbook that did not work as you expected? The Handbook should describe the situation pretty well as far as I know.
BTW, you won't be able to convert tab to standard just by changing clef - you will need to change the *staff type*, as described in the Handbook.

Hmmmmmm. That's unfortunate. And to answer your question, the handbook told me to select a note and then press a number key to change the fret, but, by pressing a number key, I just changed the note's duration (pressing 4 made it a quarter note, etc.). If it matters, I'm using a mac.

What's unfortunate? That you need to change staff type rather than clef to turn tablature into standard notation? Merely changing clef wouldn't make sense - tablature *isn't* just a different type of clef, it's a completely different type of staff. Different number of lines, different line spacing, different method of rendering the notes. It would be more unfortunate if changing clef affected all of those things rather than just being a clef change as it should be. Changing staff type is not difficult - press "I", select the desired type from the drop down for the staff - and it's not like you'd normally be be doing it many times for the same score.
Anyhow, as for changing duration - I think you might be confusing the shortcuts for tab input mdoe with the shortcuts for normal mode. Numebrs by themselves enter frets while in tab input mode, but in normal mode, they change duration, for tab as well as standard staves. I never said there were no errors. But in general, it should be good, so if you have specific question, just ask.

Hi, I'm having the same problem entering guitar tab as you were, i.e. when I use the number keys it just changes the duration of the notes. Any chance you could explain to me what you did to fix this? Thanks.

You need to be on a tablature staff, not a regular sheet music staff.

And you have to be in note input mode: press N if you are not.

Just checked, I'm in tab mode, clicked on the N, typed a note on the tab staff no problem, but then when I use the number key it just moves through the duration.

Just had another post from a different thread I'd posted : I'd been using the numeric keypad, and apparently you need to use the alpha-numeric keys at the top of the keyboard. Oops. Thanks for replying. :-)
