Exporting wav and mp3 files do not play back

• Aug 29, 2015 - 03:43

I am using Musescore 2.0.2 on Windows 8. When I export my score as either wav or mp3, it creates the file, but when I open it from my computer there is no sound. I hear a click at the beginning, then nothing. The file sizes are consistent with what they should be (24 mb for the wav and 2 mb for the mp3). The play back in Musescore is fine. I have even opened some files that I created in earlier versions of Musescore that I had successfully created audio files and I get nothing in this version when I try to export. I've searched the forums for an answer and could not find one. If possible I would rather not attach the score file here as it is property of the group I play with.

Thanks,

Scott

Well, I don't think attaching a score is going to matter because, like I said, I even opened scores that I created in the past and the same thing happens. And they were scores that I had previously successfully made sound files with. I guess when I get a chance to get back on my computer I'll create some random entry and attach that.

So here is what I've discovered. First of all, this is a marching percussion score I'm working with. It exports fine when using the "MikeSchorschDrumLineXtra.sf2" sound font only. But the problem with that sound font file is that I get no sound during the play back on the snare (not sure of the other instruments at this point). But if I add the "MikeSchorschDrumLine.sf2" sound font, I get the snare sound in the score, but that's when the export file is silent.

I have attached two files that show these two scenarios.

Are you sure you got them from the most current location, though? If you just did a search of this forum to find them, chances are very good the first links you came across would have been to older versions. Wouldn't hurt to download again from the link listed above.

Mostly, though, see my previous response - you may need to "Save to Score" to get non-default soundfonts to be reflected in exported audio. Not sure, but that seems to be the case.

Reverting shouldn't be necessary normally, but could be if, for example, you choose to override the default installation folder in either the previous or the new version. I think it would be a shame to lose all user customizations for each minor update.

I can't really remember what happened or why, but I don't think I changed any settings (I'm almost certain I didn't change the installation directory) and I seem to remember it was the audio that stopped working both times I upgraded. I'm not completely sure though. I don't often use Windows much any more, I normally use Ubuntu.
