Playback for marcato articulation
Based on my analysis of MSCX files, this should be very easy: velocity of 120 and gatetime of 50 (basically, the same as combined staccato and sforzato would be if #70641: Overlapping Articulations Cancel were fixed).

Did you try modifying instruments.xml to make that happen on your system? It's conceivable it would be that easy.
Such a fool I am. I went to look at instruments.xml, and there is playback for marcato after all (velocity=120, gatetime=67)—it's just not very noticeable very specifically with the flute sound. But I changed the instrument to trumpet as an experiment, and the difference is loud and clear. Sorry for the trouble.
