I would like to make the following changes to the Downloads page but I think someone like Thomas or lasconic should probably approve them first.

I think the current layout of the Downloads page is confusing for Linux users because the instructions for obtaining "official" packages are mixed with the instructions for obtaining "community" packages.

I would to organise it like this:

Latest stable version is 2.0.2

Windows Mac Linux

Windows 10
Windows 8
Windows 7

Portable version
Older versions
OS X 10.7+ Intel

Older versions
Distribution Packages
Community Packages

Official distribution releases (often out-of-date)
Many distributions release an official package of MuseScore every time a new version of the distribution is released. However, MuseScore releases rarely coincide with a distribution release so these packages are often out-of-date. You can install the official MuseScore package for your distribution as follows:

  • Ubuntu - instructions for Ubuntu
  • Fedora - instructions for Fedora
  • Etc.

Community releases (usually up-to-date)
The MuseScore community provides MuseScore packages for these distributions:

  • Ubuntu - instructions for Ubuntu
  • Fedora - instructions for Fedora
  • Etc.

I would also like to add the Ubuntu Nightly PPA to the Nightly Builds section as follows:

Nightly versions

Nightly versions are produced from the code of MuseScore that is being developed. They are intended for testers and advanced users who want to experiment with new features, or need access to the latest bug fixes and are willing to risk the instability of an unfinished product. A file saved in these may not open in a future one. Use at your own risk. Please report any bugs you find. See also comparison of stable, prerelease, and nightly builds .
