Slash fill in percussion staves, voices 3 and 4

• Sep 23, 2015 - 12:57

In normal melody staves, Edit > Tools > Fill With Slashes, if there are notes (or slashes) already in voices 1 and 2, will put slashes into voices 3 and 4. These are above or below the staff, and small, as expected.

However in a percussion staff in the same circumstances, voices 3 and 4 get small notes (as expected) but these notes have no stems. Is the lack of stems by design, or is this a bug?

Slash Fill Percussion

If normal notes in voices 3 or 4 in a percussion staff are Toggled to Rhythmic Slash, they get stems.

With slash fill, you are never supposed to have stems, that's the point. So there is no bug there.

It is a bug that the notes don't get slash heads, however. I can see why they don't - for the Toggle Slash Notation function, I specifically designed it so percussion staves would get regular heads, as that is more common for rhyhtmic notation above the staff on percussion staves. But unfortunately, I guess the same code is also kicking in for slash fill. I never noticed because I wasn't expecting anyone would ever be using slash fill for voices 3 or 4 in the first place :-). It's really meant just for voice 1, there is code to push into voice 2 if voice 1 already has content, but indeed, it both voices 1 & 2 have content, it does spill into 3 or 4, and having it show above/below the staff as for rhythmic notation is probably not a bad thing.

Feel free to file an official bug report on this ("Help / Report a Bug" from within MuseScore, or use "Issue tracker" link in menu at right of this page).

Meanwhile, yu can still manually set the notehead to slash using the Inspector.
