Can't enter MIDI / I'm stupid.

• Jan 24, 2009 - 01:10

I can't figure out how to input notes via a MIDI keyboard on 9.4. I have the box for MIDI selected at the top and the notation thing on, but I push keys and nothing happens. Is there a trick to this or can my keyboard not enter notes?
Thanks.

Does your keyboard work with other notation programs on your computer? What operating system are you using? (Windows XP / Vista / Ubuntu / etc.)

I tried using it with "NoteWorthy Composer" - the only other free composing program I had before finding MuseScore. I couldn't figure it out there, so I'm not sure if the program couldn't take the keyboard or if I was missing something.
And I'm on Windows XP.
Thanks for the reply.

What kind of cable are you using to plug it in to your computer? Is it USB or some other type? I don't have a MIDI keyboard at the moment and I'm not a MIDI expert but in the past I had to install the driver software that came with the cable in order to get the computer to understand the MIDI messages from the keyboard.

I too can't enter notes via my midi keyboard. I'm a new user. The din icon is pressed in.

When I play a chord the program responds: 'No note selected: Please selct a single note and try again'. But I get no response at all to a single note.

Windows Vista thinks my keyboard is working properly, and the keyboard functions ok with Anvil Studio, which I've been using till I decided to try MuseScore.

Any suggestions?

It works here. So I will try to write a guidelines.

- Create a new score
- Press N on your computer keyboard (or press a key on your midi keyboard)
- Choose note value (for example a quarter) --> Press 5 on your computer keyboard
- press the desired note on your MIDI keyboard
