Malfunction with Data-Export: .MP3, .OGG, .WAV will not do. (PC Crashes with MP3)
Hello,
.
something I did already before: When I upgraded from MS 1.3 to MS 2.0x, I tested exporting data, too, and MuseScore did as it should: MP3, .ogg, .pdf. wav - no problems at all.
.
Today, I tried again some "export". As example: Giorgio Mainerio - Tedescha & Saltarella.....
.
.MSCZ = Some italian renaissance music. Original file is attached to this post. This is one file I tried to export
.
.MXL _ was exported as it should. Original file is attached to this post.
.
.MIDI _ was exported as it should. Original file is attached to this post.
.
.PDF _ was exported as it should Original file is attached to this post.
.
.MP3 -- Export was started, Advance-Bar lasted three quarters of an hour from 0 to 99 % - but never reached 100%. User Interface (Keyboard + Mouse) was frozen, no more response, no control. Had to use hard reset to gain control again. No file to be seen in the DIR, so no attachement possible
.
.ogg. -- Export was started, Advance-Bar lasted a quarter of an hour from 0 to 49 % - and disappeared. Gained control over User Interface again. DIR showed Exported File of 4KB (too small!), and there's no music inside... Original file is attached to this post. (inside .zip-Arc)
.
.WAV -- Export was started, Advance-Bar lasted five minutes from 0 to 12 % - and disappeared. Gained control over User Interface again. DIR showed Exported File of 1KB (much too small!), and there's no music inside... Original file is attached to this post. . (inside .zip-Arc)
.
No idea, what could be the reason for this strange behaviour. I did not change any preferences at all.
.
I'm using MuseScore 2.02 on an old Pentium 4 (2GB RAM, 2 GHz) unter WinXP prof. SP3.
.
Sincerely
.
FarrierPete

I do not I believe I know how to help you, but...
the first attempt to export as mp3 I forgot to remove the extension (doubled .mp3.mp3) and the result was a corrupt file.
I eliminated the double extension
and it works (Vista/2.0.2)
Try the usual lifesaver: https://musescore.org/en/handbook/revert-factory-settings-0
I can attach the converted file (if it is useful to you), regards.

Thank you for your kind answer. I think I'll give it a try and revert factory settings, but have not much hope... You see, the .mp3 was written, but no file was created, even no corrupt file... .ogg and the .wav-data were created - as empty files.., and some possible double file extension won't explain that behavior. Export to xml? or pdf? no problems at all! And, why get's that ol' windooze frozen and need hard reset?
.
Sincerely

This is a known problem on Windows XP only, which is no longer supported by either MuseScore or Microsoft. Upgrading to any current operating system should solve the problem.

Thanks for the answer... OK, I'm from "Neanderthal"... But, indeed, I saw this stoneage-computer already writing .mp3 out of MuseScore 2.02... Well, it seems that I'll have to wait until the Kindergarden will be equipped with the newest, very sophisticated hardware and wants to get rid of "that old scrap computers" (from clovis-culture) with WinDooze 10....

Actually, you may not need newer hardware to get a newer operating system. It might mean some work, but more than one user of these forums first used MuseScore on Windows XP and have since upgraded their computers to Ubuntu Linux.

You could try Ubuntu, as Zack suggested. You wouldn't even have to remove Windows, they can exist side-by-side on the same computer providing you have enough disk space. You can also try out Ubuntu without making any changes to your hard drive by making a Live USB (basically putting Ubuntu on a USB stick and then booting your computer off the USB stick). There are plenty of tutorials for this online.

Hi, Shoichi,
.
Seems that you happened to insert some wrong link... a link to the thread that I've started does not make much sense...
.
Tanks for your reply.

Sorry, my mistake, too many tabs open and a bit of a hurry https://musescore.org/en/node/87321
It should be a similar case.
Unfortunately I have not found other comments in that conversation :(
