MuseScore in Afrikaans

• Jan 17, 2011 - 10:12

This is a follow up post on the request by djboer to translate MuseScore to Afrikaans.

The current status can be seen at http://musescore.org/af

Besides translating all the menu & handbook pages, there is one thing that needs to be done manually. Could someone translate the following strings to Afrikaans and post them in a comment:

  • Free music composition & notation software
  • Free Download
  • Version 0.9.6.3
  • Licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 license, 2002-2011 Werner Schweer and others.

Hi Thomas,

Herewith the translations into Afrikaans.

1. Free music composition & notation software: Gratis musiek komposisie & bladmusiek sagteware
2. Free download: Gratis aflaai
3. Version 0.9.6.3: Weergawe 0.9.6.3
4. Licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 license, 2002-2011 Werner Schweer and others. : Gelisensiëerd onder die Kreatiewe Algemene Toeskrywing 3.0 lisensie, 2002-2011 Werner Schweer en ander.

That previous translation is a bit erroneous. Here is my suggestion for an improved version:

•Free music composition & notation software / Gratis musiekkomposisie- en notasiesagteware (grammatical errors, eg. "musiek komposisie" should be one word in Afrikaans, as well as wrong translation of "notation".)
•Free Download / Gratis om af te laai (Less clumsy)
•Version 0.9.6.3 / Weergawe 0.9.6.3 (correct as it was)
•Licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 license, 2002-2011 Werner Schweer and others. / Gelisensieer onder die Creative Commons Attribution 3.0-lisensie, 2002-2011 Werner Schweer en andere. (I don't know if "Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 should be translated, but if it is, please don't use the current one. It was quite obviously translated using a dictionary and the "translation" is completely unintelligible if you don't know what the original English was.)

I don't think any of these strings are still used, 6 years later and with at least 2 major changes to the website, the bigger one being just a few weeks old. But I think Thomas Bonte could give you translateors priviledges, so you can check and translate the string that6 are in use currently. And as I see it there are quite a few that need a fresh translation (on https://musescore.org/af)

Pages like https://musescore.org/af/aflaai are woefully out of date, claiming MuseScore 1.2 to be the latest, where in fact it is 2.1

FWIW, the Creative Commons licenses have "official" Afrikaans translations for the titles. The Afrikaans for "Creative Commons Attribution 3.0" is "Creative Commons Erkenning 3.0".

https://creativecommons.org/licenses/?lang=af
At the bottom of that page are links to languages, but although "Afrikaans" is not linked to, the page does exist. I suspect the same is true for some other languages not in the list either. I also suspect the reason why "Afrikaans" is not linked is because its translation of that page is no longer 100% complete.
