Ability to hide empty staves for each system?

Hi guys

First, as I'm new here, I'd briefly like to congratulate Werner and the team for an amazing product; I still can't get my head around how wonderful a resource it is!

Secondly, having browsed this forum and seen no mention of it, I would like to request the following feature.

To my understanding, it is commonly the case (particularly in big, symphonic scores) to display the full instrumentation for the piece (or movement) on the first system (ie first page)- completely irrespective of whether or not the full instrumentation plays anything on those opening bars. (For all subsequent systems, empty staves are usually hidden for clarity, style and economy.)

I know that MuseScore currently has a tick box under the global settings ("Edit General Style") enabling users to show/hide empty staves for the whole piece (movement). Would it be possible if future releases have an additional tickbox in the global settings to support the feature I have requested above? (Eg. an additional tickbox for "Hide empty staves *except* on first system (On/Off)".) Alternatively, could future releases provide a "hide empty staves" option at the individual system level (ie CNTRL + click on stave > System Settings> Hide empty staves (On/Off))?

This is a purely stylistic feature, granted; but it would be a very useful feature, I reckon!!

Cheers! :-)

Agreed; by default, "hide empty staves" should probably do so for all systems except the first, but an option to control this would be even better. I tried putting invisible elements in the first measure of each empty staff to see if that would suppress the hiding, but it did not.

A workaround is to place a single note in the first measure of each otherwise empty staff. Then set it as invisible. To avoid having to hear it during playback, set its velocity to zero so that it will play silently.

"Hide empty staves" will not hide a staff which contains a note, even if it is invisible.

I am a new user so perhaps there is already a way around this.

Being able to “Hide empty staves” is a wonderful feature -- almost. A problem I have noticed is that, on systems where staves are hidden, the scheme I had used for setting up braces ([), brackets ({), and bar lines goes completely haywire. Some braces and brackets disappear completely, some span only one staff, etc. Some bar lines disappear in certain staves. It seems to depend on which staves these items were originally anchored to and whether they are hidden or not.

A possible solution is to add the capability of setting up these things for particular systems, rather than globally. Do not eliminate the present scheme, but add the ability to modify it for individual systems where needed. Hopefully, this would not require a major programming effort.

What about the ability to hide select instruments in the first system?

I've seen some scores in which not all instruments appear in the first system.
