While editing footnotes, a huge annoying tooltip keeps appearing showing all the symbols that may be used in footnotes. This tooltip obscures the editing area. There does not seem to be a way to disable it.
I have to admit that you do have a point here (and I'm the one who implented that large tooltip).
It should disappear all by itself after a while, as no timeout is set, that time is automatically determined by Qt based on the lenth of the tooltip. At least that's the theory, it doesn't seem to do that, regardless this being the documented behavoir (see http://doc.qt.io/qt-5/qwidget.html#toolTipDuration-prop)
Even manually setting that timeout doesn't seem to have any effect, neiher in the ui file nor via the API. So I guess we're looking at a Qt bug here?
On the other hand that tooltop disappears immediatelly when you click into one of the Footer/Header fields, which you'd need to do anyway to enter something.
So as soon as you start to enter something, the tooltip is gone, at least from the field you're entering into
