Sharps And Flats

I just put in all the key changes for my project. Why, in a sharp key, are there flats all over the place, but no sharps?

Hard to say for sure without seeing the actual score and knowing exactly how you created it, but from your statement "I just put in all the key changes", I'm guessing you entered the notes first, then added the key signatures. That's backwards. Adding key signatures does not change any existing notes. You should normally enter the key signatures before entering the notes, so MuseScore can make better guesses about how to spell things.

Still, it's easy enough to fix. Just select the region, hit down arrow to transpose it down a half step, then up arrow to transpose it up a half step. The pitches will be back to where they started, but since the last motion was up, everything will be spelled with sharps. Or, depending on the specifics, you might find Notes / Respell Pitches does good things, although this was really designed for a different purpose and may or not apply to your specific case.

Thanks for your reply, Marc. The original project was created in Sonar (I should have said that). I imported it into Ms in the midi1 format (my version of Sonar does not have XML). The piece had key signatures, but when imported into Ms, they all did not translate. That’s why I had to add them in. I used the drag and drop method. But doing so did not effect the expected changes in the measures. The flats did not change to sharps, and so on. I'll tinker some more with it (maybe I'll read the manual - I usually just try figure stuff out on the fly).

The down/up trick I mentioned definitely works. It's enough of an unusual specific case sitaution that it probably isn't mentioned in the Handbook, although it might be.

BTW, key signatures normally are imported from MIDI, but it's possible Sonar didn't put them in, in case there is nothing we can do. Feel free to psot the MIDI file and we can take a look. There was a bug where certain MIDI files that had key signatures recorded in unusual ways would not be recognized properly, but I believe it was fixed some time between 2.0 and 2.0.1 and should be working in the current version (2.0.2).
