2nd VOICES do not work for me

• Dec 3, 2010 - 18:55

Using since version 0.9, now using 0.9.6.3. I've followed any discussions and reviewed the handbooks, but I still cannot get voices to work. When I click on the green "2" and attempt to enter a second voice, it changes back to a blue "1" and changes to first voice.

What am I doing wrong?

Hi, I have been trying to add a second voice to the bass part of a piano piece that I am transcribing into Musescore, but when I click on the second voice and try to add it above the first voice, it just eliminates what was there before. I don't know what I am doing wrong because clearly others have been successful. To be more specific, I am trying to add a crotchet rest then 2 crotchets over a first voice with a dotted minim, with no success. I will be very glad if someone can help me solve this.
Regards,
Peter

See the first response above. You have to already be in note entry mode *before* selecting the voice you wish to enter. So if you are not currently in note entry mode:

1) click a measure you wish to enter
2) press N to enter note entry mode
3) click the icon for the voice you wish to enter (or use the keyboard shortcut)
4) start typing notes

Follow this step very closely.

  1. Click on the first note or rest of the measure where you want to add a voice 2. Probably your dotted minim
  2. Press N
  3. Click on the voice 2 icon in the toolbar
  4. Press 5 on your keyboard for a crotchet
  5. Press 0 on your keyboard for a rest
  6. Press C twice for two crotchet C

If it doesn't work, try again :-)

Only thing I can think of is that you accidentally entered the first set of notes in voice 2 as well, in which case it makes sense that entering new notes in voice 2 overwrites them. What happens if you enter notes into voice 1?

Also oay attention to the color coding. The cursor should match the color of the voice icon. And the notes themselves should highlight with that color when selected.

You have to put in the second voice BEFORE you put in the first voice. If you do not see a rest for the first voice, try moving the second voices rests around. Tested on MuseScore 1.2-5470. I don't know about 1.3 but i will try soon.
