Expressive Instruments Bug
Expressive versions of instruments don't play at the correct velocity assigned by dynamics. Ex. Taking a whole note and putting 'p' on it, the note will play correctly for less than a second and go to 'mf'. Velocity is set to default. I've already tried factory resetting next step is a full reinstall. It also doesn't work with hairpins either.
Below is where I was comparing the volume of the note, which is how I found it did play correctly for less than a second.

In the example I was using French Horns Expr. Switching to regular French Horns works just fine. I'm also using the HQ version of the soundfont.

*update: They also don't export properly either. specifcally to FLAC, haven't tested others.
Which version of MuseScore exactly, what Operating system? Sample score?

I hear nothing at all on those notes in the top staff.
Hmm, than after selecting them and playing again, they do play but don't react to any dynamics.

I can't reproduce from scratch either

Opened yours, it looks like expressive instruments are bugged when using the mixer. Looks like I can't be lazy anymore lol.

? I don't get what you mean?

I just add a bunch of piano's and use the mixer to select my instruments.

Unlikely the culprit, and not for a problem that can't get reproduced

Alright decided to record the issue to make it easier. I do want to add that I didn't have this problem on the previous update. I've also done a reinstall and still experiencing the issue. https://youtu.be/BvBaESWvXUw (if the video isnt up give it a second, im posting the link as its being processed.)

So you're having dynamics and hairpins and tied notes and expr. sounds that don't play along with one another nicely right? That IMHO is a known issue, but different from what you initially reported

Yeah that, but they also dont work with dynamics on their own. After a bit of testing I think I've deduced the problem, it looks like expr. don't just only work with setting the instrument on the mixer to it. Ex. Just adding a piano and using the mixer to set it to French Horn Expr. It has to be the instrument under staff prop. as well now. I'll record an example of what I mean for clarification in a bit.

Hmmm, Piano is not an expressive instrument to begin with and MuseScore knows that as far as I can tell, this is part of the instrument definition:

I understand that, although I think I'm just going to switch back to the previous version as what I was doing worked just fine and it breaks a lot of my older scores.

honestly prefer this version of how Expr. instruments work with the mixer: https://youtu.be/JR7zT8gCiU8
The simpler the better imo, although I use musescore more so for making the music than making readable music. I probably would make musicians want to cry.

It is completely unclear to be why you'd want a piano to sound like a french horn.
Whatever, a piano is not capable of single note dynamics, using an expr. sound doesn't change that
In reply to It is completely unclear to… by Jojo-Schmitz
laziness to not select horn lol. It's just because of how I start when I make my music, toss in a 5 pianos and a drumset, and just use the mixer. I use a bunch of soundfonts, so selecting the actual instrument doesn't matter. i'm too lazy to take the extra steps just for expr. instruments.

Ok, so here that laziness takes revenge I guess ;-)

I think you just found out that it does. Wait for the fun when you discover transposing instruments..

I quote (Jojo), a few comments above: "So you're having dynamics and hairpins and tied notes and expr. sounds that don't play along with one another nicely right? That IMHO is a known issue"
My few searches are not successful at the moment, what exactly is this known issue you are talking about in the Issue Tracker?

Maybe #301395: Single Note Dynamics: Decrescendo doesn't work on tied notes in sub-banks.?
In reply to Maybe [301395]? by Jojo-Schmitz
Maybe or not (sub-banks were not involved in my mind). Nevermind. Thanks.

I haven't verified that the fix also applies to ties, but I know the problem report itself did - see #309727: Accent playback inconsistent - too harsh for piano, too subtle for flute.
