musicxml from new version of Finale

• Nov 11, 2020 - 16:19

I am trying to open a musicxml saved from Finale (either mxl, or musicxml) and the oppened score looks like an empty sheet. Is that a bug?

File is attached.

I can confirm, although I see a small © (copyright symbol) at the bottom of the blank page.

MuseScore 3.5.2 ... Windows 10

It does, however, open in my copy of MuseScore 2.3.2

thank you!! would you recommend to download the older version for now? I constantly need the ability to open XML files from Finale, or do you have a command-line converter as a temporary solution?

Most XML files - whether from Finale or elsewhere - open fine in 3.5.2, probably some very specific error in this one. Overall, 3.5.2 will import XML better and with fewer bugs than any previous version. So, best to keep using 3.5.2 for most files, but if you encounter another file that gives a similar problem, maybe keep an older version around just for those.

Understood, this info wasn't known when I responded :-). But for the record, it seems the problem is a double credit element - the title is for some reason duplicated on page two and combined with the page number. Not sure how that happened, ordinary credit elements seem to work fine. I guess Finale generated that as a result of you putting the title into a header? I assume it's valid MusicXML, and anyhow it sounds like Leon is into a fix.

This is indeed a bug. Cause is a double credit-type element that was not handled correctly by the MusicXML parser. It is not a structural issue with opening Finale MusicXML files. Solution is known and I expect it should make it into 3.6.

It is indeed the issue with interpreting the credit node. Saving the file (in Finale) as a musicxml and deleting the credit node manually is a reliable and 100% repeatable workaround.

Thank you!
