Project
After not being to run MuseScore for some time now. Whenever I tried to run it, the program would crash after about half a minute (without opening any UI elements) with only the following feedback:
ICE default IO error handler doing an exit(), pid = ...
I tried reinstalling, deleting user configuration, etc. but nothing worked.
Today, I have finally found out (using lsof) that the problem was that the program was trying to reach a network printer that was configured in my system but is not available on the network anymore. After removing the printer the program runs normally again.
Platform: Ubuntu 16.04 amd64
Version: 2.0.2 from Canonical APT repo and 2.0.3 AppImage
Comments
I run Ubuntu 16.10, with a network printer (connected USB on the modem), usually off.
Never encountered this problem, but not sure I understand your situation.
Is it when the printer is not connected ? or is not registered in the peripherals ?
I believe this can still happen. MuseScore tries to determine the default paper format from the default printer, and in case of a network printer needs to be able to connect to it.
Someone with a network printer would need to check.
ISTR there were talks to add some timeout for this kind of issue?
Came up again in https://musescore.org/en/node/322297
Workaround is to setup a local printer
In reply to Workaround is to setup a… by Jojo-Schmitz
I have a local printer to be the default printer (on Windows 11).
MuseScore 4 still very slow with starting and loading score when network printer is not available. It starts and loads fast as soon the network printer is available.
Then it is likely unrelated
However: this issue tracker here has been discontinued, the new one is on GitHub
