I can't export my sheet as xml or midi

• Sep 24, 2022 - 16:05

I want to give it a try in other software, so I want to export my music as midi os MusicXML.
I clicked "export as " and selected those options, but the name of the file didn't change, and when I clicked save, nothing happened. I also tried changing the file extension manually, but it didn't help.

I'm using musescore 2, on Debian (because the files I have are on musescore 2 and I don't know how to import to 3)

You don't have to do anything special to "import" a MuseScore 2 file into MuseScore - just open it normally. File / Open, same as you'd open any other file.

It's certainly true that the major improvements to score layout between MuseScore 2 & 3 means that some customizations applied to older scores to workaround deficiencies in the MuseScore 2 will often turn out to be counterproductive in MuseScore 3 and should be reset to take advantage fo the improved defaults. And then some addition customization might be required if some of those customizations do turn out to still be needed. That's a process indeed, but still, nothing special is needed to get started - just plain old File / Open.
