Figured bass notation into word

• Oct 9, 2022 - 00:25

Musescore creates a slashed 5 by typing in 5/. Does anyone know how to get this into word? I am typing the preface to a music edition and want to insert this character, can't find in symbols or unicode etc.

Where can I find a download for Figurato . . . I'm not having any luck finding this . . . of course it could be that I'm just a bit of a luddite. I went to the file you have linked in your response, but I don't know what to click on to download the font. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The "releases" section in the right sidebar has the link to the current version. Click where the current release is listed (as of this writing, looks like 1.1), then click the specific file you want. Read the README first help you understand which version to use.

Note that, in case you were aware, you can create figured bass directly in MuseScore, then simply do screen shots to get that into Word. That's the easiest way to do a few simple examples, with notation and text combined. FIgurato is more for if you are wanting to show figured bass within text and without the actual music.

It is actually for showing figured bass within the instructions for assignments . . . I got it downloaded . . . but for the life of me, I can't see how it works and there really aren't any good instructions to help. I wanted to use it to put in 6/5 and 4/3 etc. as numbers one on top of the other so I didn't have to use a fraction format.

Thank you so much for your help - I appreciate it. And if you have any clues as to how I can accomplish figured bass in Word for my instructions I would be most appreciative.

Thanks again for your help!

Assuming you've installed the font now and have selected it within Word, it should work to just type numbers and other characters and they get formatted automatically.

As for how to type specific symbols, the manual within the "doc" folder seems to be where this is all described: https://github.com/fkretlow/figurato/blob/master/docs/manual.md. You can also learn more in an article written for the Scoring Notes blog, that's how I became aware of this font: https://www.scoringnotes.com/news/figurato-a-font-for-figured-bass/

So I did figure this out but it took a while.

To start with the image capture idea from musescore is great until you try to position it. I couldn't get the image to line up with and look like if flowed with the text.

Figurato looked like a good option, but I (think I) installed it but when I put in the 5/ which the visual documentation shows it just gave me a slightly bold 5. If anyone knows how to make this work, please tell me.

So here is the answer

You type in the two characters. 5/. then you go to font.

click on the button in the lower right that opens the font window.

choose advanced from the top two menu options.

next to spacing you choose the condensed option and then in the by you choose how overlapped you want it

In my case 5 pts put the slash right through the 5.
