Tying lyrics to eighth notes/beats
I'm adding lyrics to lead sheets (using slash marks) but having difficulty entering lyrics that tie to beats equal to eighth and sixteenth notes/beats. Thanks for any suggestions.

You'd need 8th and 16th slashes then (AKA rhythmic slash notation), as lyrics tie to notes only (and slashes are kind of notes, just a 'stange' notehead, silent and non-transposing), you can't attach lyrics to beats or rests, like you can chord symbols

Thanks for your suggestion. How do I create a slash mark equal to an 8th and 16th? When using Edit > Tools > Fill with Slashes it defaults to quarter notes. Thanks

enter some notes in the desired rhythm, then use the rhythmic slashes tool
(Marc will correct me soon if this is wrong, he wrote that stuff ;-))

Correct, this is how you create rhythmic notation. But until we understand what you are actually trying to do, it is hard to say if this is what you actually should be using. I suspect you actually want just plain slash notation, not rhythmic notation, but you just want the lyrics to be not associated with the slashes. In which case, my other suggestions are probably more what you want.
Can you describe in more detail how you want it to look? Maybe a picture of a sample from elsewhere?

I've attached a shot of what I'm trying to accomplish. I want simple slash marks but need to align lyrics to fit within the correct bars...particularly align words to slash marks indicating beats 1 and 3. Thanks

I would swear that screenshot was made with MuseScore. When you say that it shows "what I'm trying to accomplish," do you mean that you want to reproduce what's in that image, or that you have what's in that image but want to align lyrics differently?

I don't understand - that picture shows all lyrics aligned to the existing quartet note slashes. It does not appear to use anything between beats. So it seems it would work fine to just attach the lyrics to the slashes.
On the other hand, it doesn't seem to make much sense, either. Surely those words are not actually intended to be sung in quarter notes? Seems you would want something different from what is in that picture - you'd want the lyrics to reflect the actual intended rhythm. Not sure why you would want the slashes at all, really, but if ypu want them but also lyrics in rhythm, again, somply enter the ntes for the intended rhythm in another voice and make them invisible, then attach the lyrics to those notes.
Can you attach the score you are having problems with and precise steps to reproduce the problem?
Lyrics must be attached to notes - you can't have lyrics attached to places where there are no notes. You might consider using ordinary text, or adding invisible notes to attach your lyrics to, depending on what you are actually trying to do.
