no sound

I am a novice to musescore.
When I load a midi file everything is visible and correct.
But on playing there is no sound?
Strangely enough the metronome sound when selected is perfect.
I am using Musescore 2.1 on a MacBook with OS 10.12.6 anybody any thought on this?

sorry none of the suggestions do the trick. no sound from a score, no sound from the piano keyboard when playing. But strangely enough sound from the metronome.
