Can you elaborate and post a score with an example? There are many types of text. Does it affect all of them? only lyrics? Perhaps you are missing something and someone can explain where you are not doing something correctly, or there's a bug that needs fixed.
It effects lyrics and it seems as if it takes only place when you have five lines of lyrics. Any other type from 1-6 lines works fine, even 9 lines look good, I haven't tested other amounts so far.
Funny about that is, that some words in the first line have the correct font. This is not the only file showing this mistake, but I found another one, that doesn't show any mistakes although it also has five lines.
Not sure exactly right now what you have doing, but to fix this, do:
Right-click a lyric first line -> Select -> More -> Tick "Same subtype" (Verse1) -> Ok
In Inspector (F8) : click on "Reset Text to Style"
See: 1first line wrong font.mscz
In the future please post firstly on the forums support for such questions.

This score seems to have been an 'import' from MuseScore 1.x, right?

That is possible, I don't know.
