relates to #275344: [EPIC] Displaying elements, position and layout when opening 2.X scores in 3.0
3.0 always assumes articulation as one symbol. Double symbols are the new symbols in last SMuFL, so 3.0 will convert two symbols to one new SMuFL symbol. It allows assigning special sound to exactly double articulation which was impossible in 2.3.2.
Hmm.. about switching the two symbols with the one SMuFL entry: it would probably no longer being possible to then select one of the "child"symbols to flip them and avoid collision that way if a user wishes to do so?

There will be no collision if SMuFL symbol is used to show double articulation since the bbox of the symbol is taken into account. You can list all such symbols using "Musical Symbols->Articulation":

But anyway, you are right.
