Crash when creating system text
- Create piano score.
- Click on bar rest.
- 'Add'>'Text'>'System Text'.
Result: Crash (see attached log).
Using MuseScore 3.0 Nightly Build 9dac228 - Mac 10.11.6.

You are missing something, because when I follow the steps I get no crash. If it makes a difference, I used the solo piano template to create the score then I use select instruments with piano. I added system text using ctrl+shift+t, the menu and the palette and none of them caused a crash.
It's also possible the bug was introduced after the alpha release.
OS: Windows 10 (10.0), Arch.: x86_64, MuseScore version (64-bit): 3.0.0, revision: 26ad655 which is the announced Alpha release.
I never use templates, but I cannot reproduce in 26ad655, so it must be a recent regression indeed.
Confirmed. Crash still occurs with OS: openSUSE Leap 15.0, Arch.: x86_64, MuseScore version (64-bit): 3.0.0, revision: 4e30c27.
It also occurs with revision: fe51308, but there's no crash with revision: 55e0a7a
Seems to be fixed by this change.
