Adjusting text

Hi,
How to delete text?
I have two lines of text beneath the melody stave of rather a long song. One is in English . The second is a French translation. I want to delete the French and leave only the English. When I use the "select all elements......more" option, it doesn't work. Is there a way out of this without having to delete each French word separately?
