Version 3.2.3.7635 Keeps Crashing

• Jul 10, 2019 - 16:44

The new updated version of Musescore keeps crashing after I download a new file from Musescore.com. No matter what I do it crashes. If I do not download a new file I am fine, but I need to download files so I may work on them.
Please help!
Thank you!

??? If you have a file you downloaded from musescore.com that causes MuseScore to crash, we can can certainly help - but only if \you provide the file you downloaded (a simple ink will do). Otherwise there is nothing anyone can do. I've got thousands of files I can load that don't crash, we need the one that does.

There is no file! It happened immediately following the installation of the new MuseScore update.

Can you at least see why we're confused here? How can it be a problem with opening a file if there is no file?
Which problem are you experiencing?

If it is crashing after opening MuseScore from the icon (no file involved) → attempt the advice given to Ken below; Try opening a file directly from your file browser. If that works, then disable the start center.

If it is crashing only when opening a file → share the file with us.

Both scenarios can exist, but both represent a different issue and thus a different approach.

I have Musescore 3 installed on both laptop and desktop machines. After not using it for a month or so (hospitalization), I opened Musescore 3 in the desktop (Windows 10) yesterday and was notified to install update 3.2.3.7635. (At that point I had no scores open; it was at the "untitled score" screen). I downloaded the updates and when I reopened the program, it opened to a pop-up menu that said "the previous session quit unexpectedly. Restore session? yes/no" so I hit "yes" and it flashed the start page and immediately shut down. Ditto when I hit "no". There is no time to even click anywhere on the page. It's almost instantaneous--done, nada, Nothing. As I said, none of my scores were open. BTW, I'm using my laptop to report this, hesitating to install the update here for fear of the same thing. Right now the laptop is at version 3.1.0.7078. What can I do?

Maybe it is a problem with the start center, so try the following: start MuseScore by double-clicking a score file. If that works, go to Edit > Preferences > General and untic "Show start center". Close MuseScore, start it via the MuseScore icon. If it works you're set, with a workaround.

Jojo, thank you, thank you, and thanks for pointing out that there are actually two different problems in this thread. Your workaround worked. Opening it from the file itself worked. So for grins, once I had MuseScore open, I went to File>Start Center and clicked on it and sure enough, it kicked me out. So Start Center is the issue. Does this mean that my version of the Start Center is corrupted? It was kinda handy to have sometimes. Could I just start from scratch like I was a new user and download a complete new version of 3.2.3.7635? Would that restore Start Center? Thanks for your spot-on advice. KJN

Your start center isn't "corrupted"; for a group of users, the start center seems to conflict with firewall settings leading to the crash. Reinstalling won't change that.

So far, none of the developers have that issue, so an attempt at fixing it hasn't really been undertaken.

I've been using 3.2.3.7635 for a couple of weeks with no problem, but it crashed today. I just uninstalled it. Hopefully I can find an earlier version to install.
