Palettes are too small!

• Apr 23, 2017 - 00:36

I don't know HOW to explain this, but I'll try. I opened my MuseScore and found that the print is way too small. It's probably 3-4 pica or smaller. The note values are too small as well. I can't see to determine which note value to select. I have to use my keyboard. When I look for clefs, key sig., lines, etc. I can't see them well enough to use them. I don't know if this is a setting or a "bug." Thanks for any help with this issue!

Sounds like this will be fixed in 2.1?

In the mean time, in custom workspaces you can change the minimum pixel sizes and scale of the items in the palette. Right click the palette name and select palette properties.

There are a few systems that see this problem, but we don't yet fully understand why it happens. Generally, what seems to be happening is that for whatever, the computer is not correctly telling MuseScore the correct resolution of your monitor. This can happen if there is something unusual about how it is connected. The workaround for now is to start from the command line with the "-2 scaling-factor" option. Use a value for scaling-factor like 2 to make things twice as big as normal, etc. It won't necessarily affect everything that is off, but it should help. For 2.1, there will be a new option that works better - "-D DPI", where you'd enter your monitor's actual DPI value (eg, 300).

Hi Marc,

I tried entering a command prompt to resolve these issues with the palette text on a TV monitor using the suggestions from here (https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/command-line-options#Convert_a_scor…), but it is saying that "'MuseScore3.exe' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file." I am running the program on a Windows 10 computer. I also tried the other program names listed for the other OS options, bu those brought up the same message. Any idea what could be causing this?

I Reset to Factory Settings...this did not correct the size issue. Fortunately, I was able to enlarge the fonts and symbols in the palette by creating New Palette. Unfortunately, I don't know HOW TO enlarge the fonts of note values, create new score, and playback on the dashboard, etc. Can anyone help?

i have found a very quick and dirty fix.

when you go to open musescore, unplug the monitor input cable, then (without moving the mouse) double click. the screen will have no input but the computer will be opening musescore. after about a minute, plug the monitor back in. musescore will be open with normal sized palettes.
