Critical Sound Faliure
when changing instrument sounds for one of my pieces of music, the sound randomly cut out, and although i have stopped playback, i am still hearing random spurts of loud crackle coming from my speakers. this appears to only be affecting the musescore software itself, as playback on the website plays with no problem.

I just closed the application, and the crackling still persists
What OS, what SoundFont? And please share the score giving the problem
OS: Ubuntu 14.10 LTS
Soundfont: HQ Orchestral Soundfont Collection V3.0
Score: https://musescore.com/user/117225/scores/186687
Given that you're on Ubuntu, any chance you're using PulseAudio as the backend?
that would be correct
Does the problem persist with the default soundfont? Could be a flaw in that particular soundfont.
once it started, no soundfonts would play on any score imported
After restarting the PC, everything seemed to be fixed. I'm just worried about it possibly blowing out my pathetic speakers at some point in the future
More Ubuntu users have noted a crackling sound which seems to disappear after x time if PulseAudio is the background. They could also reproduce that with other programs as VLC, leading to the suspicion that it might be a PA-bug (or the way we and VLC interact with it).
Please see the following thread and specifically this comment (https://musescore.org/en/node/107601#comment-489881) in it to verify if this is what you're experiencing too.
