How do I change the beam length?

So, I'm still transcribing for future arranging.
I'm editing the harp part, and I need it to have one section of cross-staff beaming. The thing is the bottom part, will have a G at one point, and the top part will have an A. They don't do the side-by-side notation as if it were notated on the same staff (when a 2nd interval is notated harmonically e.g. G and A, it will notate side-by-side) instead, it overlaps. I know I have to move the note. I can move the note and the stem, but the issue is, I can't make the beam longer. How do I do that?

If there's a better way to do so, then let me know as well.

show us a sample measure of what you have and explain what you want. I'm not getting a good visual in my mind of this.

Without seeing the actual score it's hard to be sure what you mean, but my guess is that when you mention moving the note and stem individually, you really meant to move the whole chord. Use the Chord section of the Inspector. Moving note and stem individually can indeed disconnect it from the beam as well as any other chord-specific attributes.
