Overnight Slow Response Time

• May 9, 2017 - 15:36

Overnight MS note entry, all operations became very slow. everything worked fine yesterday, and I closed the attached file as usual. This morning it's a no-go. Very slow response. I know it's not because the file is getting too large. I've done much bigger files than this without the slowness.I tried restarting my computer (as well as closing and reopening the file) but made no difference. Please see pg. 14, and the FL Slur operation on pg. 15/ I left it as it was. I cannot even get the slur to extend over the notes , etc. What can this be?

No slowness here either. I would guess some other program on your computer is running in the background slowing things down. but rebooting should have solved that, unless perhaps the other program is a virus.

As for your slur, it appears you incorrectly dragged it. Double clicking clearly shows the end point of the slur is the first note of p 15 but you manually dragged it to appear to end with beat 2 of the last measure of p 14. The problem here is that you are trying to connect a note in voice 2 with one in voice 1. We do support this, but it is slightly tricky. To enter such a slur, first select both notes (click the first, ctrl click the last) then press "S".

OK, I'll try things again today on that score. (Later). I have been trying to work with the score again, but even the navigator is impossible to work with. It is jumping around all over the place when I try to move it up or down or to right or left, etc. Another strange thing I noticed is that on playback, the panning is not in synchronization with the notes being played, but lags behind quite a bit(The blue columnar line). Also, I have note entry set to play the sound, but that is only working off and on, an anomaly. . Is there any chance I should do" revert to factory settings? " Isn't that a rather serious operation? I have been going through my list of programs installed on my Control Panel. I don't see anything that should be causing a problem for slowness. Is there any possible setting i could have unknowingly selected or something on MS that you can think of to cause this sc ore to become unworkable? I would doubt that, since the file worked the night before, was, closed and the next morning would not work right when I opened it.

yes, My new score is being entered on MS 2.0.3. A MAJOR CLUE I JUST DISCOVERED, IS THAT MS IS WORKING PERFECTLY ON ANOTHER FILE(.An opera file I tested it on.) IT is ONLY the Ode to the Rockies file that is malfunctioning. What is wrong with that file??

I suspect the problem is a known bug with version 2.0.3, see #113396: High CPU usage with navigator on. There are 2 things that you can do to fix this. 1) upgrade to version 2.1. 2) Resize you navigator slightly, this seemed to fix navigator problems for people in 2.0.3.

You may want to read some of the other forums before deciding to upgrade to 2.1 due to popping in playback being reported by several people. Most of these problems are fixable. Various fixes are described in other forum threads. One thing you can do is copy your current version of the Fluid sound font to another directory and replace the new one after you upgrade. It shouldn't affect any other sound fonts.

Yes, since you specifically mentioned the Navigator, that's almost definitely it. You can work around it in 2.0.3 by resizing the Navigator - either bigger or smaller will fix it. The problem happens when the size of the Navigator is just on the edge of being able to show all pages without scroll bars.

Do upgrade to 2.1 - it's not a big change so won't cause headaches the way going from 1.3 to 2.0 did, but it fixes literally hundreds of bugs, including this one. The one or two sounds that cause playback issues shouldn't be a concern for the vast majority of people, and it's far easier to work around that one problem than the hundreds of bugs fixed by 2.1. Plus 2.1 adds quite a few useful new features.

OK, I think I should go to 2.1 sounds like. However, will it affect the new score I am working on in 2.0.3? I only have a bout 1/3 of the score done so far, but will it mess up what I have done so far? I assume i first download 2.1 then use 2.1 to open the 2.0.3 score and save it as a 2.1 file?

Yeah, i just experimented some more, and found that the score worked OK when I DESELECTED the Navigator and tried entering stuff etc. So I will try resizing the navigator. i would just like to get this score done for the orchestra without any more having to go to other versions of MS, like I went through for 2 years with my operatic files. I simply want to get one score done right in ONE version of MS and have it work. I understand copying the Fluid sound font , but what is another"directory"?
