Result: The default tie positioning in tablature is off-centre.

Discussion: Also, I don't think the tie shouldn't go past the area in which masking of the line occurs (possibly the real issue). To demonstrate, I attach a published example (the length of the tie may vary, so I would ignore this aspect).
