Parts does not update when changing instrument in the score

• Jan 23, 2018 - 10:26

When I change an instrument in the score in the staff properties, for example from a violin to an alto sax, the part does not update : the instrument is the old one (violin here), but the notes are transposed (with some octaviation errors) ! Is there a solution to fix that ?

Thanks for your response.
Recreate the part works, but i must redo all the layout about 15 minute for each page (and there is 10 of them) !

I have found another solution :
1. change the instrument in the score
2. go to the part and notify that the notes are well transposed, but not the instrument itself ! Change again the instrument from here : it will not affect the notes but change the alterations to the key signature.
3. Correct the key signature.

This is indeed a known issue, and as far as I know, your workaround does solve the problem. Knowing what i do about how this all implemented, I would personally be a little nervous that something might still not be right and would recommend saving a backup copy before doing the above, and reverting to it if you see problems later.

A similar issue occurs when changing the part names in a parts score using staff properties. The names of the parts do not update in the master score, including the mixer. I have to manually duplicate the changes to the names in both scores? I can't just delete the parts score and start again without having to redo everything. I like to give multiple parts of of the same instrument different names so that I easily identify them in the mixer. However, currently, I have to do everything in the master score and then create the parts score once I am done. It would be great to have the parts score update the master one in this regard.

When you say "parts score, do you mean a separate part that contains all instruments, but formatted in a way that you expect to work for the parts? While working in this way can make sense in some programs, I can't think of any particular advantage to it in MuseScore - the parts score wouldn't be any more tied to the individual parts themselves than the regular score. Or maybe you just mean the individual parts themselves? Not sure why you wouldn't be generating those at the end anyhow - MuseScore works faster if you put off parts generation as long as possible. Can you explain your usage in more detail? Maybe attach a sample?
