Lyrics above and below staff

• Mar 1, 2019 - 16:38

I'm arranging a piece and I have 2 voice parts on 1 staff with different rhythms & different texts. I read another post saying I should just type up the lyrics normally, then click on them and drag them above the staff to where I want them. I tried this; the system doesn't let the words stay where you put them. It just drags them back.

For the record - drag was a way to do it in older versions of MuseScore, but now ""X" does the job much more quickly and effectively (automatically aligning them, too).

Hey Marc :)
My song has the melody being played constantly shifting between bass and treble clef. So I am now able to add the lyrics for both treble and bass in the middle of the two staves, but the problem is that they dont align (treble lyric and bass lyrics) It's as if they are doing it like theres two voices and there by unrelated or aligned lyrics. Also because of this when I click the dash "-" it doesnt translate for if the melody goes into bass clef. Do you know if theres a way to get the lyrics to get both bass and treble lyrics to be in the middle aligned?

Do you mean aligned like the image below?

I changed the value of "Position above" for the lyrics:
Format > Style... > Lyrics > Lyrics Text > Position above > change from default -2.0 to -3.0

But it's a fragile solution: if the bass line uses notes with ledger lines, it will throw the alignment off.

Also because of this when I click the dash "-" it doesnt translate
You can only hyphenate a word when the two notes are on the same stave and use the same Voice (1 or 2). In my example I faked the hyphen with Ctrl+space (several) and Ctrl+dash.

How about adding those visible lyrics to the rests in the top staff instead? Makes them aligned and makes the hyphen work out.
The only downside is that you have to manually select each rest to add the syllable to it and only add hyphens after having added the lyrics to the rests.

You can even add them to the second staff too, but mark them invisible so they'll be available if/when parts need to be created.
