I can't reproduce. Can you say exactly which preferences you are saving and what the changes are? Does it persist if you do Help / Revert to Factory Settings? Which exact version of MuseScore (see Help / About), what OS, what language setting?

I know it can feel like crashing b/c of #293203: Apply/OK of Preferences is very slow, maybe it crashed for the reporter when trying to click or doing some other action while it is iterating/re-applying all the preferences...
