Expected result in status bar (as in 3.4.2):
Actual result: nothing, status bar is missing (of course, option is checked in Preferences, I verified)
Am I missing something myself? (I looked at the current issues, I don't see the report, at least not yet)

I guess this is a duplicate of #306633: Status bar text does not update after editing text (with possibly a different symptom)
That was indeed what I thought when I looked at the mentioned commit, but the symptom is so different that I had (I have?) a doubt.
It seems very likely related. I can't reproduce in a build from that PR, but I also can't always reproduce in the Beta. Sometimes I get the status to reflect the initial rest then it doesn't update. But as far as I can tell it's fine with the PR, at least I haven't found a way to reproduce.
@cadiz1, can you test one of the artifacts builds for https://github.com/musescore/MuseScore/pull/6210? Scroll down to the green arrow next to "All checks have passed" and click "Show all checks". You'll find builds available for Windows, Mac and Linux.

I did see that indeed. Tested with the latest nigthly 14aa080
And status bar's still there! 😂
