Shortcuts for linked staff and tablature : how to go from score to tablature and then go back to score ?

• Jul 21, 2020 - 10:35

Hi
In Normal mode, I found that Alt + down/up permit to go from score to tablature and then go back to score.

When I enter notes, Alt + down permit to go from score to tablature but then Alt + up does not permit to go back to score.

Is it a bug? (I use Musecore v3.2.3)

Indeed, unfortunately, it's a known and annoying limitation with the TAB. I think it can be called clearly a bug, considering that you can't easily switch from one staff to another (unless you specifically click on the standard staff. Once, twice, it's fine, a hundred times and more, no! Because it litteraly breaks your workflow, I agree)
However, I don't think this has been formally yet filed in the Issue Tracker, here: https://musescore.org/fr/project/issues/musescore
If you'd like to do so, you're welcome.

As I mentioned in the issue comments, it seems that disabling this for tab was done deliberately but it isn't at all clear why. Assuming no one is able to some up with a good reason not to, it's easy enough to enable it.

Meanwhile, there is a little-known workaround. The Alt+Up//Down commands don't just move from staff to staff, but also move between notes in a chord. There are separate commands that move directly between staves (or voices). There are no predefined shortcuts, but you can define them yourself, and they do work in tab. Look for "Previous staff or voice" and "Next staff or voice". I set those to "[" and "]".
