Cannot Stop Playback When Looping - latest Update 3.5.0
I can't stop a loop playing either by the keyboard or the play panel. It just goes back to the start of the loop and starts playing again. Only way out is to unselect loop and click outside the loop at which point the stop function works again. And you then have to reselect the loop to start it again. Annoying.
Do I need to create a bug for this ?

Works for me, just pressing the space bar toggles playback on/off.

Hmm, I tried another file and it seems to work now. Maybe not a real problem after all
I'm experiencing the exact same problem, both on Windows and Mac, though with the same file. In my case, pressing the space bar or play button always restarts the playback at the beginning of the loop and I have only been able to stop it by disabling "Loop Playback" and then pressing the space bar or play button at least two times. I haven't had a chance to try it on other files yet, but suspect the problem may be file-dependent. (The score in question is an original piece my band mate is writing and I don't want to post it here, but would be happy to submit it to the development team in support of a bug.) Thanks. -Alan

A few quick updates upon some preliminary additional testing:
Windows version: Windows 10 (10.0), Arch.: x86_64, MuseScore version (64-bit): 3.5.0.13199, revision: 43c5553. Mac has the same revision number, BTW.
I hope this helps. Please let me know if I should open up a bug or submit the file in support of one that's opened by someone else. (I'm new to the forum, so I don't want to inadvertently go out-of-process.) Thanks a lot. -Alan

Ah, I see, got tripped off by the title.
The spacebar does start and stop playback, just like it should, but does indeed always start from the beginning
But that isn't any different from previous versions, 3.3.4 and 3.4.1 does the same (and 2.3.2 too BTW). So not a regression and maybe even by design.

Not sure you have read it correctly.
He says that, while playback is busy, pressing space bar keeps play back on ( restarting from begin of loop) instead of stopping playback

Which it does not, not for me.
Unless I screw up my shortcuts that is (and use space for "Player: rewind")

Is there any way I can send you my file privately? I'm happy to do so, along with guidance regarding how I can consistently duplicate the problem. (I used the same looped playback, on an earlier incarnation of this file, in the very same section before upgrading to v3.5 without issue.) Thanks a lot.
P.S. Please note that I haven't modified shortcuts and space bar works fine elsewhere.

Is it just one score behaving that way, or any?

In my case, just one (same as the user who initiated this thread).

So far, that is.

OK, so not a general issue, but one with a particular score
Attach it here and we'll see whether this is reproducable

It's a work-in-progress original composition by a band mate, so I don't feel comfortable uploading it here. Is there any other way to get it to you (privately)? Thanks again, Joachim.

FWIW, no one else is likely to see it here much less download it or try do anything with it. But, if you are still concerns, just delete all but the relevant section.

Hi Marc. Thanks for the tip. I just modified the file to take out everything aside from the development section (that I thought's I'd better leave intact) and the problem is persisting. Please note that, to replicate the issue:

Hi again. Please note that I dowloaded this score on my Mac and was able to replicate the problem there as well (so it happens on both Windows and Mac). FYI, the complete info on my Mac version:
OS: macOS 10.15, Arch.: x86_64, MuseScore version (64-bit): 3.5.0.28537, revision: 43c5553
Windows version info posted in a previous reply, BTW.
Take care and thanks again for the help. -Alan

Very strange. I can reproduce too. Somehow the repeats at the beginning seem to be key, if I delete them, all is well. Also it works if I turn off playback of repeats. Otherwise, though, MuseScore acts like is not stopping - the play button unhighlights, the status bar changes from "play mode" to "normal mode", the palettes ungray, etc - but it plays on.
Can you submit this as an official bug report to the issue tracker (see Support menu, above)?
BTW, Esc also gets you out, while you are actually in play mode.

Thanks very much for confirming this on your end as well. I will submit a bug accordingly. (It's my first time doing this, but hopefully the process is easy/clear enough.)
As you can probably infer, I'm not the only one seeing this (as I didn't start this thread, but happened to find it before starting a new one). All the best and thanks again. -Alan

Or #308976: 'Loop Playback' won't stop (space or play just invokes playing from start point) ;-)
Ok, I am the OP for this thread. I eventually tracked down the problem (I think). If you have the "Play Repeats" button highlighted (in the main playback panel), and if the loop has repeats anyway (??), it won't stop playback via the space bar or the play panel. Only way out is to unclick looping, click outside the loop and stop then.
The problem goes away if the "Play Repeats" button is unhighlighted. If you highlight and hit play the problem comes back, but NOT the first time, the second time (??). Weird

So you know, the issue report is now linked to this discussion (because of Jojo's last comment) so there is no need to post in both places. This is a good place for discussions like this.
I don't have any repeats in the song I saw the problem in, but the play repeats button is pressed in my program most of the time. One thing I now remember is that it isn't an every time thing for me either. When I was experiencing thsi problem I was concentrating on something else, so I didn't report it or diagnose it further. I'll do some testing to see if I can get more details.
