Not a new issue.

Open the attached MS file with a specimen set of lyrics. The preceding dash before the lyric syllable on the second system is missing. i.e.

Severity S3 - Major S5 - Suggestion

In some languages, the dash before a lyric in this situation is standard (like French) in other languages this is unheard of (like German from what I've seen). In English I've seen it both ways about the same number of times. This is not a bug, but rather by design. It would be nice to have an option to automatically put it in when you want it.

Indeed, not standard by any means, but no doubt some publisher somewhere does this. I recall MuseScore did not originally do this for melisma lines either which is standard, this was fixed as part of the "unmanaged spanner" implementation of lyric lines a few years back. I suspect that if an option were added to allow hyphens to work this way as well, it could probably leverage some of the same code, since hypens and melismas are generally treated by similarly.
