Notes randomly (and permanently) stay light up when deselected

1) Select a note (it happens more often with the first note of the piece)
2) Do something
3) Deselect
It only happens every once in awhile, but the only way to fix it is to delete the note and re-place it. In the image, those are both notes that cannot be deselected. They are not affected when changes are made, but they are permanently lit up. I've only noticed this recently.

  1. What is that something
  2. How do you deselect? Click somewhere else, or hit Esc, or what else?

Also save/close/reopen should fix this plain visual glitch
