Formatting of text in appended text frame - verse numbers & refrain indication

• Oct 18, 2022 - 16:22

Hello,
I'm new here, and I've not been using Musescore for long.
Previously, I used to format my scores with a combination of Noteflight and InDesign.
I'm working on A5 transcriptions of liturgical hymns and worship songs, in order to provide the users with melody, chords for instrumental accompaniment and the full text of the hymn/song all in one place (this is unfortunately not quite commonplace where I live).

I was wondering whether it is possible - or whether it will be, in MS4 - to append lyrics formatted as in the attached picture: in a dedicated frame at the bottom of the page, with left-aligned lyrics, and negatively indented verse numbers or refrain indications.

I understand it is already possible by placing lyrics and numbers in two separate frames - was wondering whether there was something more "automated" for this purpose.

Please do not consider typos in the texts, as I'll having them all revised at the end of the transcription work.

I doubt if MuseScore will have text formatting capabilities any time soon to achieve what you have there. I suggest you create the text in your favourite text editing application and save it as an image or take a screen grab which you can then add to a frame.

There are no new text formatting capabilities in MuseScore 4 yet, although it's certainly a possibility for some 4.x release.

Meanwhile, though, what you show isn't that hard to achieve. I wouldn't use multiple frames, - just two text elements in a single frame. Define custom text styles with pre-set offsets for the verses themselves and for the verse numbers, and you don't even have to manually position anything.
