Separating two sets of divisi double (etc) stop chords for strings, etc, Part II

• Sep 22, 2014 - 15:26

I understand how to do this MuseScore 1.3. I asked about this back in 2012 and got very good answers. I have my 2nd Mandolins, divisi, with each half playing a double-stop chord at the same time. As some of the notes are in the same area, I'd like to separate the stems of the two chords so that they don't overlap. I can move the noteheads, but can't get the stems to move in 2.0.

The old discussion, and the example from Ravel's "Rapsodie Espagnole" are here: http://musescore.org/en/node/18792

1. (the Violin 2 part in the 2nd-4th measures)
2. (the Violin 1 part in the 1st & 3rd measures.)
3. (the pizzicato chords in the Violin 1 and the upper Viola part in the 1st 2 measures)

Could you post the actual score you are having problems with, and the specific steps you are following?

It should not normally be necessary move notes at all to avoid collisions in 2.0 Beta 1 - the layout algorithm is more sophisticated in that way. I'm not seeing any chords in the posted image that I would expect to require manual adjustment.

But if/when you do need to do manual adjustment, the best way is to use the Inspector, applying an offset in the "Chord" section. This moves the entire chord - all noteheads, stem, accidentals, dots, etc - at once. If you use the double-click-and-nudge-notehead method, the stem now follows automatically only for single note chords. For multi-note chords, you will need to move the stem manually (also using the Inspector).

That's not with 2.0 Beta 1 or any subsequent nightly build, though? Because that should be rendered correctly. If you are finding otherwise, again, please post the *actual score* (not just a picture of it) so we can see what is going wrong in your score when it works fine for others. When I try to enter those chords, they render exactly as expected.
