Piano bass stave has 2 voices. How clean this up?
Hello,
I imported a MusicXML file of piano music into MuseScore 4. For some reason, the bass is regarded as consisting of two voices (see attachments). One voice is all rests, the other the notes of the composition.
How can I clean up\correct the bass line?
MuseScore newbie # "12345" thanks you for your help.
OS: Windows 10 Version 2009 or later,

From your picture it looks like the notes are in voice 2 and the rests in voice 1. You need to select all the measures in the bass staff and then exchange voice 1 & 2.

Once all those rests are in voice 2 you can select them all and delete.

Excellent. Worked perfectly. Thank you. Out of curiosity:
What exactly is a MuseScore voice? (I created a test score with piano and flute and added a note to each of the 3 staves. Each note appeared to be "voice 1". (Really!) When I added a chord to the piano treble clef, all notes were voice 1. Not clear why I would need another voice)

Yes, a blank staff can support up to 4 voices. Voice 1 is used first. The term "voice" here has nothing to do with the human "voice".
When I added a chord to the piano treble clef, all notes were voice 1.
Yes, if you are playing blocks of stacked notes as chords with each chord comprised of notes having the same duration, they can be in the same voice.

Voices are needed when notes in the same staff are played at the same time but have different durations.
Listen to some examples:
Voices-examples.mscz
The guitar example has its bass line as another voice.
The piano example starts with 1 voice in the upper treble clef (8va) staff and uses 2 voices in the lower treble staff where each whole note is held while other notes play above it. The second section of the piano example introduces a second voice in the treble clef staff -- so 2 voices are used in each staff.

Awesome answer, jm6. The mscz file really brought the concept to life for me. Thank you very much.
