Have you enabled note entry by pressing "N" in addition to pressing midi?

Have you verified on another program that your midi keyboard is actually sending out note on's and off's?

And have you read the Handbook section on note entry, or watched the tutorial videos? If you are expecting to just play music in real time and have it transcribed, that's not going to happen. You need to enter notes one at a time, selecting duration for each as you go, exactly as you would when doing note enter using your computer keybaord, the builtin Piano Keyboard window, or using the mouse.

I don't know if this might be helpful in your case, but-------.
In order to use my midi keyboard to input notes, I must turn on the midi BEFORE I open MuseScore. If I don't, exactly nothing happens. Weird, but an easy work-around.

"4.Click the rest (selecting it) in measure 1 to indicate where you want note input to begin
5.Press N to enter note input mode
6.Select a note duration such as 5 for quarter notes (crotchets), as described above
7.Press a note on your MIDI keyboard
The pitch should be added to your score."

Another oddity: When I do this, nothing happens unless I enter the first pitch from my computer keyboard; after that first note, I can enter from the midi keyboard.
