Volta text style issues

• Jul 25, 2015 - 16:15

(Win 7 HP. MuseScore 2.0.2 official). See attached score. I think this may be a new bug in 2.0.2.

In the score, Volta text style has been set to 6pt (for demonstration purposes). Now select Volta 1, go into line properties > Begin > text properties, and press "reset to style". Nothing happens!

But there's more: When you make changes to, say, volta text size in the "style" menu these changes are immediately applied to the "continue" and "end" section of the volta line properties without the reset to style button being applied first (in Volta line properties). The "begin" text is not affected for some reason. All of this can be confirmed by inspecting the volta line properties immediately after changing the text size in the "style" menu.

Expected behaviour: Changes to Volta style (in style > text) should not be applied to existing voltas in the score. Only when the "reset to style" (in Volta line properties) is pressed for each individual volta should these changes be applied.

I'm not sure what you expected to happen when you press Reset to Style? The text is already using all the style setting, so there is nothing for Reset to Style to do. I think perhaps you might be mistaking that button for a "restore MuseScore built in default values for the style"? That is not what this is. This simply restores the specific text element to the *current* style settings, if you had overriden them.

I am not understanding your second point. The whole point of style settings is that they are supposed to take effect immediately. Lines (including voltas) are a little special because they are not text elements themselves - they *contain* text elements. So existing text elements contained within lines are not affected, and that's a known limitation. But since there is no continue or end text yet, the style settings *are* applied when you create one.

So as far as I can tell, everything is working correctly, and this should be no different from 2.0.1 or 2.0 as far as I know.

I've looked at the file again and it is clear that reloading has cleared the "bug". Which is why there was no apparent problem in the attached file. I can't account for the original bug and I haven't been able to recreate it in the reloaded file.

However what was consistent about this "bug" was the fact that the "continue" and "end" text properties were being updated by changes in text style but the "begin" properties were not.

Just for the record, I also filed these reports involving lines: 8va text reverts to default 12 when other "line properties" are changed and Text size indication in 8va/b symbols always shows 12pt even when actual text size is different . No idea if they're connected.

Well, see my previous reply - the fact that text style changes affect text not yet created is most definitely not a bug; it's an absolutely essential part of what a text style. If there is a bug here, it is that the text style change does *not* apply immediately to the existing begin text. As I said, lines are special because the text they contain is kind of hidden within them and hence they do not update right away. That's a known limitation of text within lines, but one worth looking at.
