Do we need Foto-Mode?

Is it not just like Print Screen/Grab?

Might seem a bit irrelevant to the program's purpose?

I believe we do, but I'm not sure it's the right name for it.
It's not just like Print Screen/Grab for several reasons :

  • It doesn't capture non printable symbols (break, spacers) neither frames and invisible elements (even if you don't turn them out in display menu)
  • It doesn't capture the background, so you can have a funky background and white capture.
  • More important, it enables better resolution capture than just a normal print screen

I didn't understand the need for it either, but reading these replies, I not only understand the need, but think it's a really great feature! Any chance it can be added before the 1.0 release at the end of this month? (I'm not familiar with its stability in the nightlies).

Just out of curiosity, why does the symbol for Foto-Mode look like it was scratched on a piece of paper with a pencil? The "N" next to it looks professional, the "F" looks like it was done freehand is five seconds.

Is there a specific font that the "N" next to it was made with? It would seem to me that the "F" should be consistent font-wise with the "N" that it's next to.

Ooooh, after I posted, I thought about this - instead of the letter F, how about a camera icon? I did a Google Image search and found 3 that I'm attaching to this post. I actually think I like camera3 file the best (if the blue in it is changed to black), and it has a CC license and is free for commercial use. Here's where I got them:
