how to use MuseScore

hi!
i precise that it's the first time that i use the wonderful soft MuseScore and also sorry for my poor english ...
i try to write a partition that it start with a silence, how can i do it? it's always a note appears however i select a silence.

Press the spacebar on your keyboard to add a rest.

For note entry via mouse you can use the rest icon on the note toolbar in combination with a note duration.
