I have my Papelmedia GM 2007 installed and the single-note dynamics don't work with it... Changing to the default soundfont makes it work.

Also note that not all instruments support single note dynamics, like piano. Once hit a key, the velocity is set, no way to in- or decrease.

I don't see a french horn in MuseScore's instrument list
And neither in your score, you mean "Horn in F", "F Hn."?

Ah, I see, the MIDI sound is called "French Horns". But it hasn't been switched to the "French Horns Expr." variant in the HQ soundfont, therefore no single note dynamics.
Try the attached.

BTW: none of the instruments of that score are using those Expr. channels, I guess because it isn't using the HQ soundfont and your custom one doesn't have those

I'm not sure of the entire history of this score, but by default some of the instruments have the espr version of the sound and some don't. When I load the soundfonts from the score and click Switch all patches to expressive, all instruments are then set to expressive. My guess is that Howard manually set up the patches and got these results.

Also, in my limited testing, the french horns seem to work fine for single note dynamics when this is done. My ears are not the best, so I made a long note, applied the dynamic of p with a crescendo to f and the dynamic change was obvious.
