Choosing Tablature Type for Mandolin
When adding a linked staff to a new “Standard” score for mandolin, I find an array of other formats, including:
Tab. 4-str. Simple
Tab. 4-str. Common
Tab. 4-str. Full
Custom Tablature
What are the differences among these four formats?

Create four scores, rather than one? Truly an ingenious approach! ;-)

No, add 4 linked tab staves with different settings
Or check the handbook, like https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/tablature and https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/staff-part-properties#tablature-sta…

I've already read the tabulature section several times. If you see something in there that answers my question, please let me know what I'm overlooking.

Copy and paste from the handbook:

Your attachment is just a screenshot and does not explain why you do not find the description that Jojo pasted to be good enough. You ask "What are the differences among these four formats?" and the handbook answers. Why are you not happy with this answer? Do you actually have a different question that we should have guessed?

My mistake. Apologies.
re:
Select a tablature type from the drop-down list under "Staff Type" in the right-hand pane:
Simple: Displays fretmarks only. Best for staff/tablature systems.
Common: Displays fretmarks, note stems and beams.
Full: Displays fretmarks, enhanced note stems, beams, and rests.
Note that staff "type" is an umbrella term, and occasionally a misnomer. Whichever you choose (Simple, Common, Full) the staff type is tablature.
Simple, Common, Full are actually pre-packaged style settings that control which symbols display on the tablature staff.
Fortunately after chosing a pre-packaged style we can modify properties in Staff Properties>Advanced, largely in the Fret Values and Note Values tabs.
