Exporting to MusicXML ignores lyrics placed on rests
Hello
1) Create a new empty score - the entire score is filled with rests.
2) Add a lyric to a rest.
3) Export to MusicXML.
4) View MusicXML in a text editor and it can be seen the lyric is not exported to the rest.
Thanks.

I'd try this but...lyrics on a rest?

Strange situation I grant you, but I'm not using the lyrics as lyrics per se, but as instructions.
Nevertheless, this is a bug in how MuseScore exports MusicXML data as the lyric element is a child of a note element irrespective of it the note is marked as .

I was more asking how do you put lyrics on a rest. Why not some other kind of text.

I'm sorry I'm not quite following, if you mean within MuseScore, select a rest, CTRL-L (on Windows - I don't know about other OSes), and type in a lyric.
As for other kinds of text, I'm not certain what other texts MusicXML supports. I am using MuseScore as an editor for a custom application that reads the MusicXML files exported by MuseScore and I rely on the lyric Element of MusicXML.

Sorry. You're right. I've never tried to add lyrics to a rest. However you can add text as a Staff Text, move it where you need. I did that, saved as MusicXML, reopened and the text was there. It was there in Sibelius, also.

For instructions use staff text. Avoids that bug in MusicXML export
