What note are you selecting, and what were you expecting it to do? It works normally for me. If I select a note and press F2, the cursor keys then move the note rather than navigate. If I select a text element, it puts it in edit mode, giving me a cursor and allowing me to edit the text. If I click a time signature, it put that into edit mode and allows me to move it with the cursor keys. And so on.

Thanks. I wanted to look at velocities before exporting a midi. If I select a D in treble Clef for example, then right click, I can see "Edit the element", but can get no further. This applies to any note. However, reading your post above, I tried selecting a time signature: this time, below "edit the element" I could see another line which said "Time signature properties". Clicking on that produced various options. So far, that is the only item in a score which seems to work. I thought "Edit the element" enabled me to change various parameters of the object selected. Perhaps I am mistaking the purpose of this in Musescore 4. (?) (I am using Musescore version 4.0.1.230121751 on an up to date Windows 10). Any understanding of the edit element function, and particularly, how to edit velocities would be appreciated!

See my previous response. F2 is about edit mode, which is for moving elements with the cursor keys - or, for text, about actually editing the contents of the text. It works perfectly for all elements,

What you are trying to do has nothing to do with edit mode. You simply need to go to the Properties panel in the left sidebar to access and change the properties of an element. Velocity of notes is found in the Playback section.
